問題の発言は今年の2月26日、フジテレビ系情報番組の「Mr.サンデー」内にて報じられた『K-POPにハマる女たち　韓流男子にひかれるワケ』という企画に対して述べたもの。番組内で、司会の宮根誠司が日本でヒットを目指す韓流アイドルが徹底したレッスンを受けていることに触れた際に、木村は「レッスンだけじゃないんですよ」と述べ、韓国政府の国家ブランド委員会について触れると、「K-POPをブランド化しようと力を入れている」「広告会社に言って、YouTubeなどに載っている動画の再生回数を増やしている」と主張した。後に、「Mr.サンデー」側はこの木村太郎の発言について「誤解を招く表現があった」、また韓国の国家ブランド委員会からも「特定の映像に対して再生誘導を依頼した覚えはない」との指摘を受けたとして謝罪する事になった。この一連の騒動以降、木村太郎のメディア露出が激減、『干されている』といっても過言ではない状況が続いている。
